Artist Statement

My artistic focus lies primarily in nature and landscape photography. However, I enjoy creating pieces that touch on a bit of fantasy, too. My projects often start with an idea and location in mind, which I might expand on or fine-tune as a project progresses. The seasons have a significant impact on what I might choose to photograph at any given time. Sometimes I will abandon a subject as winter sets in, only to pick it back up in the spring. My photos are nature-themed, and I often find myself identifying and learning more about a specific subject after encountering it in the wild. My artistic companions are field guides, memoirs, poetry, and books about nature.

I am interested in using color, line, and shape to create artwork that communicates a message about wildlife and habitat conservation. The images are visual studies of the natural world, its aesthetic beauty, and the ecological importance of wild creatures and preserved spaces. My photographs may speak to naturalists and people already interested in nature. However, I want my work to help cultivate more awareness of the importance of wild places, even those that are small and often overlooked in conservation efforts. I hope that those who view my work leave with a better appreciation for nature and an interest in caring for the world around them.
