In 2019 a landmark study published in the journal Science brought to light the terrible losses that bird populations had suffered over the prior 50 years. A 2025 report has indicated that these declines continue. For anyone who spends time watching and listening to wild birds, it is clear there are fewer every year, and the threats to their survival have increased exponentially.

This ongoing project is a memorial to the birds who have vanished already from the landscape—who will never return to sing, and mate, and bring new life into a struggling world.

We typically think of diminishing returns within the context of business or productivity. With this project I challenge the viewer to consider the concept in a different light. To consider diminishing returns within the context of nature.
