Forest Topography

Leaves are almost like tiny representations of the landscape itself. Like the land, they have dips, valleys, scars, and contours. There can be some stunning similarities when the surfaces of leaves are compared to a satellite image or an aerial photograph of Earth's surface. These pieces of the landscape are vital in creating the feel of a place. They provide shelter and sustenance for wildlife while shading our homes, yards, gardens, and parks. To look closer is to commune with a part of the landscape that one might take for granted. This collection of images is meant to bring the viewer closer to a piece of the natural world, one which is essential to supporting the ecology and aesthetics of our surroundings. It is also meant to point out the connection between the landscape and what grows from it.
